The purpose of the Regulation is to promote occupational health and safety and to protect workers and other persons present at workplaces from work-related risks to their health, safety, and well-being. Compliance with the requirements provides the basis on which workers and employers, in cooperation, can solve workplace health and safety problems.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act was passed in 1970, with the goal of providing a safe and healthy work environment for all US workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is part of the US Department of Labor and was created as a result of the act in 1970.
