Does home health care really help?

There are many benefits to home health care, experts say. Most obviously, it allows seniors to stay at home instead of having to relocate to a facility. Home health care also reduces loneliness among seniors, which can improve their mental and physical health, says Pecora.

Under previous Medicare rules, only physicians could place orders for patients to receive home health services – medical care provided in a patient’s home that can include skilled medical care, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

Who is eligible for home health services?

Who is Eligible for Home Health Services? Home Health can often cost less than traditional hospital or nursing care. To be eligible for Home Health, the patient must: • Be homebound, or unable to leave their home without some degree of difficulty • Require skilled care • Have a referral or prescription for home care from their physician

Who qualifies for home health care?

  • You must be considered homebound using the criteria set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid.
